Milestone -
Tragedy struck Dallas and Krissy Martens Friday, September 18th on the island of Roatan in Honduras. Dallas and Krissy (nee Larson) moved to the island two months ago in hopes of speeding up the adoption process of a little boy named Will, whom they had fell in love with during a previous visit to the island.
The Martens were working with The Morgan Jayne Project that fights Roatan's AIDS epidemic by focusing on reducing the number of children who are infected by their mothers, both at birth and by drinking breast milk. (www.themorganjayneproject.com)
Dallas and Krissy had been out to celebrate their first anniversary when they stopped to look at a house that they were thinking of buying. When they got out of their car two masked men ran out from behind the house and grabbed Krissy. Dallas got in between Krissy and the men to protect her, when they shot and killed him.
Their families have now traveled to Honduras to be with Krissy and friends and family back home have been busy organizing fundraisers to help Krissy. Krissy attended High School in Milestone and some of her friends have organized a steak night next Monday in Regina. There has also been a fundraiser planned in Saskatoon and the Affinity Credit Union is accepting donations at any branch. A group has been established on Facebook to quickly spread information and you can also find information on Facebook about the fundraisers planned.
