On Sunday afternoon, Victor and Isabella Frank left for Regina where they were guests of the Saskatchewan Housing Corporation in the Wingate Hotel. On Monday morning, May 14, 2012 they boarded a charter bus and headed for the Conexus Art Centre, Theatre lobby. Upon arrival they were escorted to their table, where Victor received an orchid boutonniere. Master of ceremonies was Roger Parenteau, director of Housing Authorities and Northern Operations. Following the welcoming remarks by Ken Acton, Deputy Minister of Social Services and the Honourable June Draude, Minister Responsible for Saskatchewan Housing the awards presentation took place. Presenting the awards were Don Allen, president of Saskatchewan Housing Corporation and Honourable June Draude.
This year twenty-five volunteers were awarded their 25th year gift among them was William Caird, who was unable to attend due to spring work. One 30 year award was given along with six 35 year awards and one forty year award.
Victor received his 35 year award along with Ken Oberkirsch of Radville. The presentation of the awards brought the morning to a close. Jerome Niezgoda, area manager of the Southeast region gave the blessing. A buffet lunch was enjoyed by all in attendance. Photos were taken following the luncheon.
At one o’clock honorees and their guests boarded the chartered bus for the Legislative Building for introductions in the house. We did not have any trouble with the group of protestors on the front lawn, and our bus driver was very good in maneuvering the bus through a line of motorcycles, cars, big trucks and people. The bus returned us to the hotel where we picked up our vehicles and headed home.
