A knight in shining armor stopped in Ogema on Monday, June 25, 2012.
Vincent Gabriele Kiaouak of Quebec City is riding his horse Coeur de Lion across Canada for ‘chivalry’. Vincent left Quebec City on April 1, 2012, when the weather was warm and sunny.
His journey has brought him this far in 86 days and he will end up in Vancouver.
When asked about the weather he stated that he has ridden in terrible weather conditions.
He has been following #13 Highway through the area stopping at local towns along the way.
The two local clergy enjoyed a short visit with Vincent before he had to take care of his faithful companion at the Deep South Animal Clinic.
His companion is a 9 year old Belgian –Appendix Quarter Horse cross (1/2 QH ½ Thoroughbred) and she likes Gatorade, which helps to keep her electrolytes up just as it does in humans.
Throughout their trip, the pair has stayed with different folks each night. “I have not had to sleep outside yet,” stated Vincent. “God will provide.”
The Deep South Animal Clinic also provided care when Cour de Lion woke up with a case of hives on Monday morning.
After an emergency call and some care the pair was on their way west when Kathy Gudnason, Deep South Star, spotted them and stopped to chat and snapped the photo above.
Vincent explained, “I don’t hide my face usually, it is the wind and sunburn.
I need to keep it covered.” Though the visit was a short one, Vincent’s gallantry and spirit were very apparent.
