On Sunday, May 6, 2012, St. Luke’s Lutheran Women’s Missionary League-Canada hosted the Capital Zone spring rally. Eight societies attended with 53 registering. The theme of the Renewal was ‘Ask and you will receive – an answer’ based on Matthew 7:7.
President Carol Rein called the meeting to order and welcomed everyone. She called on Dawna Mellon who, on behalf of St. Luke’s LWML-C, brought greetings and welcome to all in attendance.
Roberta Nixon, Christian Growth co-coordinator based her inspiring opening devotion on Matthew 7:7 and on the book of James; ‘Ask/Seek and ye will find’. She closed her devotion with everyone joining in the hymn: ‘Seek Ye First’. The League pledge and the LWML theme song ‘Called to serve’ followed.
The business part of the Renewal consisted of minutes from the Fall Renewal, the treasurer’s report and information. The LWML-C National convention is in Kelowna from July 5th through to July 8, 2012. Carol Rein is the official delegate with Roberta Nixon as the alternate. Societies were asked to rate the Mission Grants and relay this information to Carol to assist her in voting. As well make known your wishes as to the elections and by-law changes. A short break followed.
Jaquie and Lorraine Weber accompanied by Helen Nixon from North Southey LWML-C entertained with a beautiful rendition of ‘I was there’.
The highlight of the afternoon was the Pastor’s Panel moderated by Lisa Wright. The panel consisted of Pastor Ted Giese, Pastor Daryl Solie and Pastor Jeremy Swem. The pastor’s were challenged with questions dealing with religion, theological doctrine and personal information. Their spontaneous answers were inspiring, informative and at times, humorous.
Lila Pollard, Christian Mission assistant accepted the monetary ingathering’s from each society as well as from individuals and Marian Syrnyk, Christian Mission chairperson responded with prayer. Eileen Hutton, treasurer, presented the ingathering in the amount of $710.00 to Jerry Tondevold, chairman of the Deep South Personal Care Home toward which this ingathering was designated. In his thank you, Jerry Tondevold gave a brief history of the Care Home. The money will go towards outdoor furniture for the resident’s patio.
The Webber ladies entertained with another selection entitled ‘Tomorrow’. Prince of Peace LWML-C Society, Regina, did the closing based on Psalm 121 followed by the hymn ‘Lord dismiss us with your blessing’. They extended the invitation to Prince of Peace for the Fall Renewal.
Carol Hein thanked everyone for attending and a special thanks to Marian Syrnyk for her years as Christian Mission chairperson.
The Renewal closed with the singing of the table prayer, supper and fellowship.
