Radville -
Another rodeo season has officially started. On Wednesday, April 8th sponsors for the 15th annual Long Creek Rodeo gathered in the basement of Holy Family Church to get things rolling.
The Kickoff celebrations this year were held in the Holy Family Church basement instead of the Radville-Laurier Recreation Centre because of renovations being done to the Centre. After Marlene Marin said grace sponsors were invited to enjoy a delicious meal of roast beef, baked potatoes, baked beans, salad and a large variety of desserts that had been prepared by the Long Creek Rodeo Committee. After everyone was fed and watered it was down to business. Every year the rodeo committee comes up with a different way for the sponsors to compete for the event they will sponsor and the chute they will eventually advertise on. This year was no exception. Hal Hofmeister, Rodeo Chairman, welcomed everyone and thanked everyone for coming and then proceeded to warn everyone that they needed to listen very carefully to everything he said as it would be imperative later on. (Of course Hal's warning was unnecessary as everyone always listens and pays strict attention to Hal every time he speaks.) Hal began by informing everyone that this year, instead of the proceeds going to the Father Yandeau Fund, the donation would be made to the Radville and District Health Centre Foundation, the official committee raising money for the construction of the new Health Care Facility to be built in Radville.
The ticket sales for the Youth Ambassador tickets are going very well, Dr. O's Cookoff will back for another year and they have hired the Vern Michael's Band to once again play for the Cabaret.
After Hal finished speaking Frank Tuchscherer, took over. Frank explained that he hoped everyone had listened carefully because in his hat were a number of practice golf balls, each with an acronym of something that Hal had mentioned when speaking. For example, DOCO stood for Dr. Oberholzer's Cook Off. Sounds simple but some of the acronym's were a little harder than others, but with some help from friends, everyone managed to answer correctly and get their sponsored event or chute chosen.
Door Prizes were then drawn for. Claire Labbie and Garth Fradette were the winners of shirts that had been donated by 4 Season Enterprises Inc, George Hay's new endeavour. With all the "business" finished, Hal thanked everyone for coming.
The Long Creek Rodeo takes place this year June 19th, 20th and 21st and promises to be another fun-filled weekend.
