Radville -
The students at St. Olivier's were excited to have six members of the Weyburn Red Wings visit their school on Thursday, January 21st.
When they arrived in Radville three of the Wings stayed at the school to participate in gym class with some of the classes and the other three proceeded to the rink to spend some time skating or playing some scrimmage with the kids.
These school visits are a regular program that the Red Wings participate in every year. They visit the Weyburn schools and many of the other schools in the area. The kids really enjoy spending time with these young men and, while watching these players interact with the students, you can tell that they enjoy these school visits. At some of the schools they spend time reading to the students and other places they participate in their gym classes. The six young men that came to Radville were true ambassadors for the Weyburn Red Wings Organization. They were polite, respectful and really enjoyed spending their time with these young students.
A very competitive game of floor hockey was played with the Grade 1's in the afternoon. With two Wings on one side and one Wing on the other side the game the game was very fast and the kids were having the time of their life. Even the kindergarten kids got to spend some time with the hockey players, but instead of playing hockey with the younger students, they let the kids decide what they wanted to play with and joined in, whether it be jumping rope, playing on skateboards or hula-hooping.
Over at the rink the Wings spent time skating with the kids and playing some on-ice games that everyone enjoyed.
These visits are something the students look forward to every year. They enjoy playing with these hockey players and who knows, maybe one of these years, they'll be watching an NHL game and be able to say, Remember when ...!
