Ogema -
There have been some special minor hockey events this year. A very successful Minor Hockey Day was held on January 9th. There were several games and fun was had by all the players and spectators that came out. The Ogema Rink Board would like to thank all of the businesses and individuals who sponsored the Minor Hockey Day. We would also like to thank all of the volunteers and those who donated food. It is great to see the local rink so busy.
The Ogema Rink Board also organized a Timbits IP Jamboree through the Saskatchewan Hockey Association for players who that are ages four to seven. This event is set up to provide a positive, enjoyable experience for all Initiation Hockey players as well as an educational opportunity for the parents. The Saskatchewan Hockey Association feels that involvement in a jamboree will provide an opportunity to increase a player's enjoyment of the game, while also increasing the education of parents and coaches. Fair Play is one of the main points to a jamboree.
The Saskatchewan Hockey Association sent out Barry Wolbaum from Regina to work with the players, parents and coaches on January 16th. Barry has been the instructor at the North Regina Hockey Camp since 1979. He is also very involved with the SHA and travels around Saskatchewan each winter instructing a variety of hockey and coach certification clinics. There were nineteen hockey players along with their parents who participated in the Timbits Jamboree. The on ice session was just over an hour long and the players went through a variety of drills. An added bonus for these kids was they were joined on the ice by several of the players from our senior hockey team the Ogema Colts. The kids were very excited to get to be on the ice with them. It was a lot of fun to see how much these kids admired them, especially when they demonstrated the drills. We really appreciated that these guys volunteered their time and skills. The Ogema Colts Players were Travis Leonard, Aron Bacon, Tyler Frey, Jonathan Struthers, Nick Struthers and Ben Struthers. Thanks so much for paying it forward guys.
