Arrows Capture Highway Hockey League title

The Avonlea Arrows defeated Strasbourg Maroons 4-3 in game 3 of the best of five league final series to win the championship series. Jaret Nelson scored at the seven minute mark of the second overtime period to give Avonlea the victory. Strasbourg was up 2-0 after the first period and the game was tied at 2 after the second period on goals by Avonlea’s Gavin Mievre and Luke Fritzshaw. Avonlea went up 3-2 on a goal by Lonnie Forrester early in the third period but Strasbourg tied it up with one second left in the game putting it into overtime. Avonlea had won the first two games by scores of 4-1 and 4-2.

After finishing the league in third place behind Strasbourg and Cupar, the Arrows swept playoffs series with Southey and Raymore before meeting Strasbourg in the final.

The Arrows have never won a regular season title in the 10 years they have been in the Highway League but have won 4 championships in the last 8 years.
