Avonlea, SK - The weather was fabulous and the fishing fine, as the Dunnet Park Annual Walleye Derby commenced early Sunday, June 29th at the Reg Watson Reservoir near Avonlea.
Thirty-two teams participated this year with some traveling from as far as Esterhazy to join in on the fun.
Adding to all the activity, the fishing show, "The Dime Store Fisherman" was being filmed on location, spotlighting the angling at Dunnet Park and touring various areas in the community. Show host/producer, Jim Hoey and his crew were escorted around by Avonlea's mayor, Alex Getzlaf who spent two days showcasing the area and of course the great fishing.
Throughout the day approximately 126 fish were weighed, making this year's derby a very successful one!
Anglers headed to the recreation building where volunteers served refreshments and heaping helpings of chili for supper. Awards and raffle table prizes were handed out by Dunnet Park Chairman/Dirt Hills Wildlife President, Warren Howse.

A huge thank you to all the businesses and sponsors who so generously donated prizes for the derby. Without your support, fund raising functions like these would not be possible. Also, thank you to all who dedicated their time and efforts by volunteering and helping out in any way to make the day such a success and last but not least to all the anglers who turned out and participated - we hope to see you all again next year!!
