Pangman -
It all started in the fall of 2007. Clara White and the small but dedicated group of a dozen or so volunteers with the Deep South Personal Care Home Auxiliary pondered how they could possibly help raise the $30,000 needed to replace the Care Home's 34 year old whirlpool lift tub. Then came the spark! Someone suggested that former students of Pangman School be contacted, so an earnest and sincere letter of appeal went out to those with roots in this district. The response was heart warming. Within the next few months, donations came in totalling $8,005 including Big Sky Farms, Radius Credit Union and Barber Motors who responded kindly to the corporate appeal. Numerous donations were received as well from our friends in neighboring communities. Also, at a fundraising dance during which the RY Ramblers gave generously of their time and talent, Terri & Eleanor Klippenstine presented a $500 cheque on behalf of the Dummer Community Centre. Shortly after, Bob Schwindt and Kim Beattie came forward with a generous cheque for $1,852 on behalf of the Parry Aces Ball Team. Then came the miracle! After the passing of Lelah Linkert, St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Ogema designated the $20,000 bequeathed to them to be used for the tub fund. The new tub was then purchased and installed in 2008. It has been a source of enjoyment for the residents and Home Care clients as well as being very user-friendly for staff.
"Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful committed citizens can change the world. Indeed it's the only thing that ever has." Margaret Mead
