Radville - The sport of soccer has once again swept Radville. Tuesday, September 9th was the kickoff for approximately 140 students at St. Olivier School and RRHS.
A few years ago the sport was introduced in the spring by Coleen and Rob Embree and family. The sport exploded as the activity for players involved everyone on the playing field and some friendly bantering on the sidelines among the fans, parents and grandparents.
The 2008 soccer season was organized by Judy VanDeSype and Recreation Director, Travis Fogg and is played every Tuesday and Thursday, starting at 5:30 p.m. and then another round of games at 6:30 p.m. There are 10 teams playing, all wearing different coloured team t-shirts making the playing field a rainbow of colours.
The soccer program would not be possible without the dedication of the coaches. Thanks to the coaches: Kindergarten to Grade 2, Orange - Jessa VanDeSype, Navy - Jody Schmidt, Green - Carrie Henheffer, Makayla MacDonald, Gold - Lisa Lewgood, Tanya Stadnick; Grades 3 to 6, Red - Kara Friebel, Blue - Sherri O'Byrne, Purple - Bridgette Harder, Green - Jamie Soanes; Grades 7 to 9; Maroon - Terri Field, Indigo - Brent Loewen.
Come on out to St. Olivier School to catch the action of the Kindergarten to Grade 2's and the Grade 3 to 6's or stop at the RRHS field to watch the Grade 7 - 9's.
