The Oxbow Prairie Horizons School (OPHS) is looking at ways to improve the safety of its students by lessening traffic congestion at the school during bus drop off and pick up times.

Currently the buses park on the east side of the school on Tupper Street. Many parents also drop off and pick up their children in and near this location.

The school would like the bus zone to be shifted to the south side of the school along Marion Avenue. The bus drivers agree this is a viable solution.

The school recently sent a letter to Oxbow Town Council explaining their safety concerns, and requested a change in signage. The school would like to move the ‘bus parking only’ signs to Marion Avenue. This change will open up extra parking for parents on the west side of Tupper Street. The school is suggesting ‘no parking signs’ be installed on the east side of the street, so that students are not walking across the street to be picked up.

At the regular meeting on Feb.13, members of Oxbow Town Council voted in favour of the school’s proposal.
